Welcome to basics. We all have to start somewhere!
This is a screenshot of my split screen. I noticed that it depends on what computer I am at and what rights are set up for the network when it comes to shortcuts. I really liked ctrl F to search a page for keywords. I can see myself using that for research.
Typing Speed and Training
Interesting, I took the typing test on line for the basics and am down to 51 wpm. I must be getting old. I teach typing for the first 10 minutes of my classes 1st - 5th. Students are required to cover their hands and use the hand positions. My goal is to have my students type 20-25 wpm by the end of 5th.

School BYOD policy
Coopersville does not have an official BYOD policy. Students are allowed to bring their own devices, but they seldom do. 6-12 grades are given Chromebooks of their own for the school year. It solves a lot of problems with connectivity and software conflicts although most of what we do is web based so there isn't much of an issue there. Parents are concerned about breakage and theft, which has proven to be a problem at times when students bring their own device. Making sure the students have school provided devices also avoids issues of the haves and the have not's.

AUP Review
To me, the thing that sticks out the most in our policy is the Disclaimer section. It states that there is risk of seeing inappropriate material but because of the wealth of information the school feels that it is worth the risk. Students are responsible for making good choices, not downloading or viewing inappropriate material. What is appropriate is up to the teacher. I teach my students to tell me right away if something makes them uncomfortable. This is also stated in our policy. Also discussed are the sharing of passwords and the sending of inappropriate messages. Little is said about consequences other than the chance of losing network privileges. It seems like it is more to keep the school from being sued. There is a section for the student and one for the parent to sign.

Tech Quiz Review
My weakest area from the quiz was my knowledge of ISTE Standards for Teachers. Most of my curriculum objectives are based on the “old” Michigan technology checklist. While I am very familiar with the student end of things, it’s interesting to read through standards specific to teachers and technology. Having worked with students and technology for over 20 years, the Standard that stood out the most for me was Design and develop digital age learning experiences. This is so important! Done correctly, technology ads so much to the student’s learning experience. Each of the standards is a great reflection of what teaching with technology should look like.
Modeling
Other areas for review from the quiz reviewed were the shortcuts and browser tricks. I did learn a few that I am putting to use with my students. My 5th grade classes are doing research and creating a Google slideshow they will present to the class. I showed them how to split screens and use CTRL F to search out and highlight specific words. I am going to move the concepts down to the lower grades. I did notice that not all shortcuts work on all machines. I wonder if some of the shortcuts have been turned off by our tech staff for some reason.
